Lamp-like Project | 2025 | Installation

The title “Lamp-like Project” refers to both the visual form and the conceptual idea behind the work. “Lamp-like” is a Lithuanian slang meaning something that appears randomly and without reason. In my work I explore the thought and what appears and exists beyond it. Although this is a temporary change, pressing the button destroys the endless possibilities of space and its artworks within the framework of the project. This destruction works through perception, and the change that occurs appears against the intention of other artists for the representation of their artworks.

REcopy | 2025 | Installation | Perforated self-copying paper

RE is repetition and renewal, return and opposite actions - so I use a specific rhetoric in the text: I redublicate RE and relativistically edit the phenomenon to copy. To REcopy is to copy what I cannot name, to copy what has been and will remain in the feeling, to copy the process of copying. Everything I do is an unconscious reaction to this rebus. It becomes a recurrence which reanimates itself in my first solo exhibition. The other remark is that I choose to use self-copying paper and use it to recuperate my artistic practice. The paper self-copies, in this case it reflects, and not by copying, but by REcopying, it resonates the idea of the exhibition, respectably reproduces and further regulates.Thinking of the artwork, I register the verticality of the gallery as well as its reverse and some indescribable nostalgic feeling. This is what I am trying to reconstruct, to refer by feeling and to reduct the image, so that each person's experience could have its own interpretations, as a meaningful REcopy of my imagination. I direct the relief and reform the accessibility - I repress the usual images and emphasize the less frequently seen perspectives. I aim to retranslate myself, and finally, to recommend REcopying and revising to relax and react or see the repellent.Reply to self.

REcopy | 2025 | REinstallation | Perforated self-copying paper

This is the reinstallation of the site-specific work from my first solo exhibition “REcopy”, which took place at the gallery “5 Malūnai” 2025 03 10–04 03. RE is repetition and renewal, return and opposite actions. To REcopy is to copy what I cannot name, to copy what has been and will remain in the feeling, to copy the process of copying. In this case, I restore the material, reflect on and reconstruct the phenomenon again – I retranslate, reduce the image and direct it in the different context.

film | 2024 | Installation | Various materials, coded with Microsoft Excel

Although I specify this space as a film, this definition acts as a starting point for the viewer’s experience. The film suggests an alternative space where scepticism is less powerful, where the existence of an omnipotent computer asking the simple question “how do you feel?” is possible. It is as if it can decode people’s feelings and give them a one-word answer. Otherwise, it would be absurd to believe that a computer, so fundamentally alien to emotions, could suddenly become a direct translator of feelings. But if it is a film, then is the person who comes to the scene part of the film, or just an observer? It is the individual experience of the person that creates the plot for the imaginary film. When delving into the space and its components, the participant cannot do so impartially, because the computer organism does not exist as a living entity without human involvement.Part of the project is an interactive computer program that asks that personal question “how do you feel?”. After typing in the answer, an algorithm I developed selects one word from the Institute of the Lithuanian Language’s “Current Lithuanian Dictionary”, whose definition is most similar to the feeling expressed, and prints out that result.

Confinement | 2023 | Instalation | Screen printing on plastic

When walking around the city I noticed a lot of interesting places with a restricted viewing or entry. It made me feel annoyed, because limiting access only makes me want to see it more. If or once I get to view those places, it turns out to not be very special or interesting, most likely because my mind comes up with a better visual for it and sets the expectations too high. This experience inspired me to recreate the act of restriction in “solitary / solidary” exhibition. I created a cover from a very thin and delicate plastic to suit the space and put it in the room which looked the most interesting to me, at least architecturally. It is an inside balcony room with a room below connected by stairs on one side and by an empty vertical space on another. That empty space between two floors is what I separated. What is left behind the cover is only a vague visual of the actual space without any way for the viewer to see it from inside. And a feeling or connection that comes to someone is dependent on everyone’s individual experience with this phenomenon, it was just my gesture to interfere with this space and restrict part of it.
